Yagi Seifu 八木正風 – Japanese painter of the Showa period
Yagi Seifu was a Japanese painter from Nagano Prefecture during the Showa period. He was born in Nagano in 1907 and graduated from the old Ueda Junior High School in 1924. In 1931, he completed his studies at the Department of Japanese Painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts).
Many of his classmates, such as Kaii Higashiyama, Shingo Yamada, Meiji Hashimoto, and Bunji Miura, were among the most talented artists in Japan at the time. However, Yagi Seifu chose a different path and did not submit his works for public exhibitions. Instead, he followed his own unique path, presenting his art in group shows with former classmates at the Shiseido Gallery and in solo exhibitions.
In the salt fields of Ueda, Shinshu, an exhibition of his original paintings was held at the Shioda no Sato Exchange Hall on November 3, 2010, which made him famous among the local people.
